UK Allocates £1 Billion From Frozen Russian Assets for Ukraine Military Aid

The United Kingdom has allocated over £1 billion (approximately $1.36 billion) in military aid to Ukraine, funded by proceeds from frozen Russian assets, according to UK Defence Secretary John Healey during his visit to Kyiv. This aid has enabled the delivery of hundreds of thousands of artillery shells, air defense missiles, drones, spare parts, and supported new contracts for maintenance and repair of Ukrainian military equipment. The UK government has also committed £4.5 billion in military support to Ukraine this year, including a £2.26 billion loan through the Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration fund, which is being repaid using frozen Russian assets. Healey emphasized the UK's efforts to review and accelerate funding for the readiness of its Armed Forces and discussed multinational force deployment plans with allied ministers. The ongoing cooperation between the UK and Ukraine's defense and industrial sectors reflects a century-long partnership, while the UK continues to lead a coalition of over 30 countries to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities. These measures are part of broader political and economic pressure on Russia amid its invasion of Ukraine.
