Hilary Ulp Guilty of Felony Murder in Child's Death

Hilary Ulp was found guilty of felony murder in the death of her ex-boyfriend's son, Nicolas Kuras, after a jury trial in Macomb County. Kuras died in January 2021 from injuries inflicted by Ulp in 2015 when he was just 14 months old. Ulp had previously been convicted of first-degree child abuse in 2016 and sentenced to 11-30 years in prison. The recent murder conviction, resulting from a six-week trial, carries a mandatory life sentence without parole. Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido expressed hope that the verdict brings justice for the young boy and serves as a reminder of society's responsibility to protect vulnerable individuals. Ulp's sentencing is scheduled for January 28, 2025.
