Tyreek Smith Transfers Amid NIL Dispute

Tyreek Smith, a former Memphis forward, has transferred to Kansas State, marking his fifth team in as many years after stints at Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, SMU, and Memphis. Smith's decision to transfer reportedly stems from a dispute over Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) compensation, with claims that Memphis did not fulfill their financial obligations, having received $175,000, a third of the agreed amount. He will redshirt during the 2024-25 season at Kansas State to learn the team's system and will be eligible to play in the 2025-26 season. Smith had initially joined Memphis this offseason and participated in one exhibition game, but later requested personal days before ultimately deciding to transfer. Kansas State's coach Jerome Tang will now have Smith as part of the Wildcats' roster for future seasons.
