The University of Oklahoma unveiled a statue of legendary softball coach Patty Gasso at Love’s Field, marking the first statue on campus for a female coach or athlete. Gasso, who has led the Sooners to eight national titles and is the winningest active coach in NCAA history, chose the statue's pose, which features her outstretched hand for a celebratory slap. During the ceremony, attended by fans, former players, and university officials, Gasso expressed her desire for the statue to represent the entire program, not just herself. The statue unveiling, originally postponed due to weather, was celebrated with speeches from OU President Joseph Harroz, Athletic Director Joe Castiglione, and former players. Gasso was visibly moved, emphasizing the statue as a tribute to all the players and supporters who have been part of OU softball's success.
