Sheikh Abdul Rashid, also known as Engineer Rashid, has criticized both the BJP and the INDIA bloc for their roles in the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir. Following his release from Tihar jail, Rashid announced that his Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) would contest 35 to 40 seats independently in the upcoming assembly elections. Meanwhile, PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti has accused Rashid's party of being a proxy for the BJP, questioning the source of its funding and influence despite Rashid's imprisonment. Mufti alleged that the AIP is part of a government strategy to divide the Kashmiri vote and weaken the PDP's position. Omar Abdullah of the National Conference echoed similar concerns, suggesting the BJP could form a post-poll alliance with smaller parties and independents. Rashid, however, has dismissed these accusations, emphasizing his long imprisonment and lack of alliances.
