New York Announces Six Free Fishing Days for 2025

New York State will host six designated Free Fishing Days in 2025, allowing individuals to fish without a license during these times: February 15-16, June 28-29, September 27, and November 11. This initiative, part of the state's 'Get Offline, Get Outside' program, has been in place since 1991 to encourage people to explore fishing as a hobby and support conservation efforts. Governor Kathy Hochul emphasized that these days provide an affordable way for residents and visitors to enjoy nature and promote tourism. Additionally, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has partnered with libraries to offer a fishing rod lending program, enabling newcomers to try the sport without upfront gear costs. Participants are reminded that while the license requirement is waived on these days, all other fishing regulations remain in effect. The program aims to foster a new generation of anglers and enhance outdoor recreational opportunities across the state.
