China's Military Commission Plans Three New Academies Nationwide
China's Central Military Commission, under President Xi Jinping's leadership, has approved the restructuring of military education through the establishment of three new academies aimed at modernizing the People's Liberation Army and enhancing military talent cultivation. The new institutions include the PLA University of Army Branches, formed by merging the Army Academy of Armored Forces and the Army Academy of Artillery and Air Defense, located in Hefei; the PLA Information Support Force Engineering University, based on the College of Information and Communication of the National University of Defense Technology and the Communications NCO School, located in Wuhan; and the PLA Joint Logistics Support Force Engineering University, formed from the Army Logistics Academy and the Army Military Transportation University, located in Chongqing. All three academies will be recognized as higher education institutions and will recruit ordinary high school graduates nationwide, with details on majors and enrollment to be announced according to the national recruitment plan. This initiative reflects China's broader efforts to adapt its military branch structure and enhance specialized capabilities in information support and logistics amid ongoing military modernization. The move signifies a strategic emphasis on integrating education and training with the evolving needs of the PLA.
