India win by an innings; Jadeja century
India demolished West Indies by an innings and 140 runs in Ahmedabad inside three days to take a 1-0 lead in the two-Test series. India declared on 448-5 after centuries from KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel and a match-defining unbeaten 104 from Ravindra Jadeja, who also took 4-54. West Indies were dismissed for 162 and 146 as India’s pace and spin attack — including early strikes from Mohammed Siraj and support from Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar — repeatedly tore through the touring line-up. Alick Athanaze offered some resistance with 38 and was struck on the helmet by a Bumrah bouncer but was cleared to continue; the visitors had also been weakened by injuries to key quicks. India travel to Delhi for the second and final Test starting Friday and are heavy favourites to wrap up a 2-0 series win. Separately, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched major education and skilling initiatives in Bihar, including the Rs 60,000 crore PM-SETU scheme.
