Omaha Softball Extends Coach Mike Heard After Summit League Titles

Mike Heard, head coach of the Omaha Mavericks softball team, has signed a multi-year contract extension following a series of historic achievements for the program. Under Heard's leadership since 2022, Omaha has won three consecutive Summit League tournament championships, made three NCAA tournament appearances, and secured the Summit League regular season title for the first time in 2025. The team finished the 2025 season with their highest-ever RPI of 46 and ranked No. 9 in the Division I Mid-Major Softball rankings, marking unprecedented success in the program's Division I era. Athletic Director Adrian Dowell praised Heard for establishing a culture of excellence and expressed enthusiasm for the future under his guidance. Heard's coaching tenure boasts a winning percentage of .715 with a 148-59 record, and the program has achieved notable victories against Power Four conference teams. Additionally, Omaha added power-hitting middle infielder Taylor Sedlacek from Wichita State, further strengthening the team for upcoming seasons.
