Sharks Add Jeff Skinner, Jakub Skarek on One-Year Deals
The San Jose Sharks have signed veteran forward Jeff Skinner, 33, to a one-year, $3 million contract and goaltender Jakub Skarek, 25, to a one-year, $775,000 deal. Skinner, who joins from the Edmonton Oilers after scoring 16 goals last season and making his playoff debut, brings 699 career NHL points and a Calder Trophy. General Manager Mike Grier expects Skinner’s playoff experience and scoring ability to strengthen the Sharks’ offense and provide mentorship amid their rebuild. Skinner is projected to compete for a top-six forward spot and help the team improve after his challenging stint in Edmonton. Skarek, with professional experience in the AHL and brief NHL appearances, is likely to start in the minors but offers depth at goaltender if injuries arise. These signings underscore the Sharks' strategy of blending veteran leadership with developing talent as they attempt to climb out of the NHL’s lower ranks.
