The mug features the head of Bes, a deity associated with fertility and childbirth, and was analyzed using advanced DNA and chemical testing techniques. The findings indicate that the concoction included psychotropic plants like Syrian rue, alcohol, honey, and even human bodily fluids such as blood and breast milk, suggesting deep ritualistic significance. Researchers propose that this beverage was part of 'incubation rituals' meant to invoke dreams from the gods, possibly aiding in fertility rites.
