Two Dolphins Rescued from Florida Mangroves
Two dolphins were successfully rescued from a shallow lagoon in Matlacha, Florida, after being stranded for possibly over a month. Witnesses reported seeing the dolphins trapped in the mangroves, leading to a coordinated rescue effort involving the Lee County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). The lagoon, only 2 to 3 feet deep at high tide, made it difficult for the dolphins to escape, with trails leading to open water similarly shallow. On Wednesday, multiple agencies joined forces to navigate the challenging environment, using shallow-water boats and equipment to reach the dolphins. After pulling the dolphins through 300 yards of mud and placing them on floating mats, they were towed to deeper waters where they were evaluated and released with satellite tags. The rescue highlights the collaborative efforts of various wildlife and marine organizations to ensure the safety of marine life in distress.
