Broken Arrow Plans $98M Hackberry Market Retail Development
Hackberry Market, a $98 million retail development in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, is transforming an abandoned lot into a 211,000-square-foot shopping complex that will include major retailers like Home Depot, Hobby Lobby, TJ Maxx, and Burlington. The project spans over 30 acres and is expected to generate more than $100 million in annual sales, with a tax increment financing (TIF) district in place to fund necessary infrastructure over 25 years without affecting property taxes that support schools and local services. Mayor Debra Wimpee praised the development as a significant win for the city, highlighting its potential to meet residents' retail and dining needs while funding essential public services such as police, fire, and streets. The public-private partnership between the Broken Arrow Economic Development Authority, Hackberry Market LLC, and Lockwood Development anticipates the creation of hundreds of new jobs and hopes to spur further commercial growth in the area. Construction is set to begin soon, with a grand opening expected by late 2025. The TIF district is projected to collect $120.5 million in sales and use tax revenue during its lifespan, facilitating the project's infrastructure costs.
