Multiple Russian Oil Refineries Hit by Ukrainian Drone Strikes, Fires Reported
Ukrainian drone attacks have significantly impacted key Russian oil refining and fuel export infrastructure, including the Ust-Luga port complex, Krasnodar and Volgograd refineries, and the Kuibyshev (Novokuibyshevsk) refinery in Samara. The Ust-Luga port, a critical export hub operated by Novatek, suffered damage that may take up to six months to fully repair, forcing adjustments in exports such as reduced naphtha shipments. In Krasnodar, a fire caused by a drone strike was quickly extinguished, but the region's refinery capacity has been disrupted, contributing to gasoline shortages amid increased fuel demand. The Kuibyshev refinery in Samara experienced a major fire following drone strikes, leading to production halts and highlighting the vulnerability of facilities hundreds of miles from the front lines. Volgograd's refinery, owned by Lukoil and among Russia's largest, faced multiple drone hits but aims to complete repairs faster than expected, despite damage to units covering 90% of capacity. These attacks collectively have disrupted approximately 17% of Russia's refinery capacity, underscoring Kyiv's intensified campaign against Russia's energy sector amid ongoing conflict and international sanctions.
