Multiple Child Cyclists Struck by Vehicles Nationwide
Several recent incidents across the U.S. have involved young bicyclists being struck by vehicles. In Coweta County, Georgia, a child riding an electric mini-bike was seriously injured after being hit by a Nissan and was airlifted to an Atlanta hospital. In Glendale, Arizona, a 13-year-old Mountain Ridge student was fatally struck by a pickup truck while riding his bike in a crosswalk; the driver was not impaired and stayed at the scene. In Huntsville, Alabama, 13-year-old Kallel Fox, an eighth grader at Mountain Gap Middle School, died after being hit by a vehicle; the driver also remained at the scene, and the incident is under investigation. Schools in each community have offered counseling and support services to students and families. These incidents have raised renewed concerns about child bicyclist safety nationwide.
