Fourteen Children Arrested After Fatal Gateshead Fire
Fourteen children, aged 11 to 14, have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter following the death of 14-year-old Layton Carr in a fire at Fairfield Industrial Park in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. The fire broke out on Friday evening, and firefighters arrived shortly after 8pm to extinguish the blaze. Layton Carr, reported missing earlier that evening, was found dead inside the building after the fire was put out. The arrested group comprises eleven boys and three girls, all of whom remain in custody as the investigation continues. Northumbria Police have notified Carr's family and are providing specialist support, describing the incident as 'extremely tragic.' Authorities have requested privacy for the bereaved family while the investigation remains ongoing.
