Zverev Advances to French Open Third Round Overcomes De Jong
Third seed Alexander Zverev advanced to the third round of the French Open by overcoming a slow start to defeat Dutch player Jesper de Jong 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-3. Zverev, last year's finalist and seeking his first Grand Slam title, adapted to de Jong's heavy use of drop shots, which initially disrupted his rhythm and helped the Dutch player take the first set. After adjusting his game, Zverev regained control by breaking de Jong multiple times and maintaining a strong serve, eventually overpowering his opponent as de Jong's errors increased. Zverev praised de Jong's performance while expressing confidence in his own level and hopes to continue progressing in the tournament. He will next face the winner of the Italian matchup between Matteo Arnaldi and Flavio Cobolli. This victory marks Zverev's eighth consecutive season reaching at least the last 32 at Roland Garros.
