MC5 Inducted into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

The influential Detroit rock band MC5 is being honored with an induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, recognized for its role in pioneering punk rock music. Despite limited commercial success, the band's legacy is celebrated for its revolutionary sound and political activism, notably during events like the 1968 Democratic National Convention. The induction comes shortly after the deaths of the last original members, drummer Dennis 'Machine Gun' Thompson and guitarist Wayne Kramer. The ceremony will be held in Cleveland, part of a class that includes artists such as Mary J. Blige, Cher, and A Tribe Called Quest. Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine highlighted MC5's foundational impact on bands like The Stooges and The Ramones. MC5's induction is also accompanied by a new book, 'MC5: An Oral Biography of Rock's Most Revolutionary Band,' which reflects on its enduring influence.
