Veteran Midfielder Nemanja Matic Joins Serie A Sassuolo

Nemanja Matić, the 37-year-old Serbian midfielder with a distinguished career at Chelsea, Manchester United, and Benfica, has signed a one-year contract with Serie A club Sassuolo, including an option for a second year. Matić returns to Italy after playing for Roma in the 2022-23 season and recently completing a season at Lyon in France, where he made 37 appearances. His signing brings valuable experience and physicality to Sassuolo's midfield as they aim to strengthen their squad following promotion back to Serie A and an opening loss to Napoli. Sassuolo coach Fabio Grosso highlighted Matić's international stature and career achievements, which include multiple league titles, domestic cups, and 64 Champions League appearances. Matić has also earned 48 caps for Serbia, including participation in the 2018 World Cup.
