TSA Intercepts Loaded Guns at Multiple Airports

Multiple incidents of travelers attempting to carry loaded firearms through airport security have been reported this week. A 9mm handgun was intercepted at Washington Dulles International Airport, marking the 25th firearm detected at the airport this year, tying the record for the most in a calendar year. At Pittsburgh International Airport, a .40 caliber handgun was found in a man's backpack, with 40 guns intercepted in total at that airport this year. Norfolk International Airport also set a new record with 34 guns confiscated in 2024, after a man attempted to bring a loaded .22 caliber handgun through security. TSA officials emphasize the responsibility of travelers to ensure they do not carry prohibited items and advise proper declaration and storage of firearms when traveling. Violators face significant civil penalties, which can reach up to $15,000.
