Maine Truck Driver Injured, Cited in Portsmouth I-95 Rollover
A 54-year-old Maine man, Dean A. Merritt of Old Orchard Beach, was injured in a tractor-trailer rollover crash on an Interstate 95 on-ramp near the Portsmouth Traffic Circle in New Hampshire on Thursday morning. According to police, Merritt was driving a 2014 Peterbilt 388 truck towing a 2003 Heil Trailer loaded with concrete mixing dust when he failed to negotiate a curve, causing the vehicle to cross the left shoulder and overturn. Troopers assisted Merritt out of the truck, and he was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Merritt was cited for negligent driving. The on-ramp was closed for approximately four hours while authorities cleared the debris and removed the overturned truck, reopening shortly after noon. Multiple agencies, including Portsmouth Police and Fire, the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services, and the Department of Transportation, assisted at the scene, and the incident remains under investigation.
