California-based AI startup Groq Inc. has partnered with Aramco to construct the world's largest AI inferencing data center in Saudi Arabia, aimed at serving the Middle East, Africa, and India. The initial phase will deploy 19,000 language processing units, with plans to expand to 200,000 units, backed by an investment estimated in the nine-figure range. This collaboration underscores Saudi Arabia's strategy to diversify its economy beyond oil, leveraging its low energy costs and strategic geographic location to attract tech industries. The data center is expected to become operational by late 2024, processing 5.28 million tokens per second initially, with aspirations to increase capacity significantly by 2025.
