Miyu Yamashita Wins AIG Women’s Open Before Record 47,000 in Wales
Miyu Yamashita of Japan won her first major title at the AIG Women’s Open held at Royal Porthcawl in Wales, finishing two shots ahead of runners-up Charley Hull and Minami Katsu. Yamashita, 24, maintained a steady performance throughout the final round, making only one bogey on the 17th hole and finishing at 11-under-par. This victory marks her sixth major championship win from Japan and adds to her 13 LPGA of Japan Tour titles. Charley Hull, who finished second for the fourth time in her major career, was a strong contender but faltered with bogeys on the 16th and 17th holes. The tournament attracted over 47,000 fans over five days, making it the largest women's sporting event ever held in Wales. Yamashita expressed joy at winning such a historic tournament in front of a supportive crowd and having her family present for the moment.
