Ian Cramer Pleads Guilty in Deputy's Death

Ian Cramer, son of U.S. Sen. Kevin Cramer, has pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including homicide while fleeing a peace officer, in connection with a high-speed chase that led to the death of Mercer County Sheriff's Deputy Paul Martin on December 6. Cramer stole his mother's car from a hospital and led officers on a chase, reaching speeds over 100 mph before crashing into Martin's patrol vehicle. The homicide charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. Additional felony charges include preventing arrest and reckless endangerment, with several misdemeanor drug offenses also involved. Cramer’s sentencing will follow a presentence investigation, including mental health and substance abuse evaluations. Sen. Kevin Cramer has noted his son's serious mental health issues, including severe paranoia and hallucinations.
