AC Milan Nears Deal to Sign Luka Modric

Luka Modric is set to leave Real Madrid this summer after 13 years, with his final appearances coming in the expanded FIFA Club World Cup in the United States. AC Milan, whose new sporting director Igli Tare traveled to Croatia for negotiations, is reportedly close to signing Modric on a one-year deal following verbal agreements. Modric, a six-time Champions League winner and 2018 Ballon d'Or recipient, reportedly supported Milan as a child and is prioritizing a move to keep playing at the top level ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Despite offers from MLS, Saudi Arabia, and elsewhere, Modric is said to favor Milan, who hope his arrival will help them rebound after finishing eighth in Serie A. Milan is also experiencing managerial changes and potential departures of key players. Modric is not expected to finalize his decision until after his Club World Cup commitments.
