Fire Destroys Matunuck Oyster Bar in Rhode Island

A major fire broke out in the early hours of May 20, 2025, at the Matunuck Oyster Bar in South Kingstown, Rhode Island, causing severe damage to the acclaimed waterfront restaurant. Firefighters from multiple communities responded and, despite strong winds, brought the blaze under control in about 90 minutes. No injuries were reported, but officials indicated the restaurant is likely a total loss and may require complete rebuilding.
