Hot Dog Truck Crash Shuts Down I-83
A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 83 near Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania, was caused by a mechanical problem with a tractor-trailer carrying 1,000 pounds of frozen hot dogs. The truck collided with other vehicles and scraped a concrete divider, ripping open its trailer and spilling thousands of hot dogs onto the highway. Four people were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Emergency crews used heavy machinery to clear the slippery hot dogs, while PennDOT spread sand to address the road hazard. The crash damaged several highway barriers and created hours-long traffic delays, with lanes reopening gradually as cleanup progressed. Officials and responders commented on the unusual and humorous nature of the incident.
