Reddit Expands Focus to International Markets

Reddit is shifting its focus to international markets, particularly India and Brazil, to enhance user engagement and advertising revenue. Currently, about half of its user base is outside the U.S., but international markets account for only 17% of its revenue, highlighting significant growth potential. COO Jen Wong noted that the platform aims to implement AI-powered translation tools to support 20-30 languages by the end of 2024, making the site more accessible to non-English speakers. Additionally, Reddit plans to improve its localized advertising strategies, starting with cross-border campaigns and transitioning to local ad teams once it captures around 10% of a country's internet users. The company's initiatives come after achieving profitability for the first time, with a reported $348.4 million in revenue.
