2023 World Cup Generates $1.39 Billion for India

The 2023 ODI World Cup generated an economic impact of USD 1.39 billion (INR 11,637 crores) for India, according to an ICC report. Hosted across 10 cities from October 5 to November 19, the event significantly boosted various sectors, particularly tourism, which alone generated USD 861.4 million in revenue. Direct investments from the ICC and BCCI, along with stadium upgrades by state cricket associations, delivered substantial benefits to local businesses. The tournament also created over 48,000 jobs and saw record-breaking attendance with 1.25 million spectators, 75% of whom were first-time attendees of a men's 50-over World Cup match. Nearly 19% of international visitors were visiting India for the first time, contributing further to the economic impact. Australia won the World Cup, defeating India in the final.
