Troy Gas Main Break Shuts John R. Road
A construction crew struck a six-inch natural gas main on John R. Road in Troy on Oct. 28, closing the roadway between Big Beaver Road (16 Mile) and Maple Road (15 Mile) and prompting officials to ask the public to avoid the area. The break, at the site of a Kroger gas station under construction, produced a loud hissing leak but caused no reported injuries or evacuations. Consumers Energy crews stopped the active leak by Tuesday evening and remained on site overnight to begin permanent repairs. Road closures persisted into Wednesday morning, with some reports saying the road remained closed and others reporting traffic reduced to one lane in each direction as repairs progressed. Officials urged motorists to use alternate routes and provided no firm timetable for a full reopening.
