Two Killed, Three Critically Injured in Manchester Synagogue Terror Attack on Yom Kippur
A terror attack occurred outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Manchester on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, resulting in two deaths and three people critically injured. The attacker used a car to ram into crowds before stabbing a man and was subsequently shot dead by armed police. Authorities found suspicious items on the attacker, including a bomb, which was later safely detonated by a disposal unit. Police have declared the incident a terrorist act and made two further arrests while deploying extra police resources to synagogues nationwide. Prime Minister Keir Starmer returned early from Copenhagen to chair an emergency Cobra meeting, expressing shock and committing to protect the Jewish community. Local officials, including Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram and Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, condemned the attack and urged public caution.
