July 4th Crackdown Brings Arrests, Citations Nationwide

During the July 4th holiday weekend, law enforcement across the U.S. ramped up efforts to reduce unsafe driving and illegal activities, resulting in thousands of citations and many arrests. In North Dakota, the 'Click It or Ticket' campaign yielded over 4,000 citations, primarily for seat belt violations, plus DUI arrests and outstanding warrants, underscoring persistent concerns about traffic fatalities tied to seat belt nonuse. On Long Island, New York, police made 52 DWI arrests and 11 arrests for illegal fireworks, with authorities noting a significant decrease in fireworks-related arrests compared to prior years. Statewide in New York, both DWI and overall citations were down from last year despite high enforcement levels. Austin, Texas, saw 39 DWI arrests, with local police highlighting the need for public responsibility and collaboration with transportation agencies to prevent impaired driving. Officials in all regions stressed the need for both proactive enforcement and public awareness to reduce roadway risks during holidays.
