Tanner will remain in his current role until a successor is appointed, with a national search commencing at the end of the fall semester. Tanner, who has been with the university for 27 years, expressed his gratitude and passion for the institution, stating his decision was mutually agreed upon with the university president. During his tenure, Tanner oversaw significant achievements, including national championships in women's basketball and baseball. He will stay in his new role until at least June 2028. The university president and Board of Trustees praised Tanner for his integrity, devotion, and contributions to the Gamecock community.
