Separate Cruiser Crashes Injure Officers in Boston, D.C.
Early Friday around 4:02 a.m., two Boston police officers were seriously but non-life-threateningly injured in a two-vehicle crash at East Berkeley and Washington streets in the South End; a third person in the other vehicle was also hospitalized. Video showed two dark-colored SUVs on the sidewalk with deployed airbags and heavy front-end damage, and Boston EMS said three people were taken to area hospitals; police are investigating and have not released details about what led to the crash. Separately, on Sept. 25 around 11 p.m., a driver who reportedly ran a red light struck a U.S. Park Police cruiser on the 4700 block of Southern Avenue near the D.C.-Maryland border, injuring two Park Police officers and a U.S. Marshal; all three officers and the driver were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities say the officers were not pursuing the vehicle, the Metropolitan Police Department is investigating, and officials have not yet released the driver’s identity or any charges.
