Torch Run Expands to Oregon, Boosts Special Olympics

Law enforcement agencies across Northern California, Oregon, and the North Valley are participating in the 2025 Law Enforcement Torch Run, carrying the 'Flame of Hope' through multiple cities including Palo Alto, Santa Clara, Salinas, Portland, Merced, and Santa Cruz. The event, involving more than 3,000 officers, Special Olympics athletes, and local dignitaries, aims to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics programs that provide free year-round sports training for individuals with intellectual disabilities. The torch run doubles as the ceremonial opening for the Special Olympics Summer Games, with this year's Northern California games hosted at Santa Clara University. Since its inception, the Northern California torch run has raised over $20 million to support these initiatives. Additional fundraising events by organizations such as the California Highway Patrol bolster these efforts. The partnership between law enforcement and Special Olympics helps promote inclusion, physical fitness, and community support.
