Waymo Car Circles Parking Lot, Delays Flight

Tech entrepreneur Mike Johns experienced a malfunction in a Waymo self-driving vehicle that resulted in the car circling a parking lot for several minutes, nearly causing him to miss his flight from Scottsdale to Southern California. During the incident, Johns, who documented the experience on LinkedIn, expressed frustration as he attempted to get help from Waymo, questioning whether the car had been hacked. The Waymo representative he spoke to struggled to regain control of the vehicle, which Johns described as feeling like a scene from a sci-fi movie. The issue was eventually resolved, delaying him by about five minutes, and Johns was not charged for the ride. Despite the ordeal, Johns remains optimistic about autonomous vehicles but criticized the current state of customer support in the tech industry. Waymo confirmed the incident was addressed with a software update and stated it had attempted to reach out to Johns afterward.
