Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Ahmed Johnson Survives Serious Drunk Driver Crash
Tony Norris, known in wrestling as Ahmed Johnson and the first African-American WWE Intercontinental Champion, was involved in a serious car accident on September 29, 2025, when he was hit by a drunk driver. Despite the severity of the crash, which heavily damaged the rear of his vehicle, Norris escaped with only a few broken ribs and confirmed he is doing okay. Johnson, a prominent figure in the 1990s wrestling scene, credited his faith for protecting him through the incident. He made history in 1996 by defeating Goldust to become the first African-American singles champion in WWE and was a notable member of the Nation of Domination. After a career plagued by injuries, he retired from wrestling in 2003 and has since maintained a low profile. Fans and fellow wrestlers expressed concern following news of the accident, but Norris’s statement has reassured them of his recovery progress.
