Galway Downs Dropped as LA28 Olympic Equestrian Venue

Galway Downs in Temecula Valley has been unexpectedly removed as the venue for equestrian events at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, a decision announced by LA28 following the approval of their venue master plan by the International Olympic Committee. Owner Ken Smith expressed his surprise at the abrupt change, particularly after a unanimous City Council vote on March 28 had endorsed the venue. Local officials, including Temecula Mayor Brenden Kalfus and Representative Darrell Issa, have voiced their disappointment and called for clarity regarding the decision-making process. Despite losing the Olympic spotlight, Smith remains optimistic about Galway Downs' future as a host for elite equestrian competitions. The LA28 committee is yet to disclose the new venue for the equestrian events, which had initially been proposed to be held at a temporary facility in the Sepulveda Basin. Galway Downs intends to continue its legacy as a premier equestrian destination in the region.
