Danny Wilson Leaves Harlequins Joins Wales Coaching Team

Danny Wilson, head coach of Harlequins since 2023, is leaving the club just two weeks before the Gallagher Premiership season begins to join Steve Tandy’s Wales coaching staff as an assistant focusing on lineout and contact areas. Wilson previously coached Cardiff Blues, Glasgow Warriors, and served as Scotland forwards coach, and had a temporary role with Wales on their summer tour to Japan where the national team ended an 18-match losing streak. His departure leaves Harlequins without a head coach shortly before their season opener against Bath, with assistant coaches expected to assume greater responsibilities during the club’s search for a permanent replacement. Wilson expressed that the decision was difficult but the opportunity to return to international rugby was too compelling to decline. Wales, under new head coach Steve Tandy who began in September, will face tough autumn Tests against Argentina, Japan, New Zealand, and South Africa as they aim to rebuild after recent struggles. Harlequins chief executive Laurie Dalrymple acknowledged the timing challenge but expressed confidence in the existing coaching staff to manage the transition.
