Reading Family Members Found Dead; Suspect Charged

News summary

Three members of a Reading, Pennsylvania family — 31-year-old Junior (Yunior) Cabrera-Colon, his wife Geraldina Peguero-Mancebo, 31, and their 1-year-old son Jeyden Junior Peguero — were reported missing Sept. 12 and later found dead on three separate days and locations. Cabrera-Colon was discovered Sept. 13 in Reading with a gunshot wound; police say 61-year-old Jose Luis Rodriguez confessed to killing him and has been charged with first-degree murder, abuse of a corpse and related offenses. Geraldina’s body was found Sept. 19 in a field off East Huller Lane in Ontelaunee Township, and Jeyden was found Sept. 20 partially submerged about 150 yards from where his mother was located; autopsies have ruled both of those deaths homicides. Authorities have not publicly named or charged a suspect in the deaths of Geraldina and Jeyden, and multiple agencies continue to investigate; a Berks County press conference is scheduled for Sept. 29 and officials are asking anyone with information to contact detectives. Family members have set up a GoFundMe to support the surviving children, and some local reports — not yet confirmed by investigators — say Rodriguez was listed on the family’s apartment application and had workplace connections to the victims.
