Alabama State Hires Johnetta Hayes as Women's Basketball Coach

Alabama State University has appointed Johnetta Hayes as the new head coach of its women's basketball team, succeeding the legendary Freda Freeman-Jackson, who retired after 27 years. Dr. Quinton T. Ross Jr., the university president, expressed excitement about Hayes' proven track record as a two-time SWAC Coach of the Year and her commitment to developing student-athletes. Hayes joins ASU following a season as an assistant coach at Rutgers University and brings over a decade of coaching experience, including a successful tenure at Texas Southern University, where she achieved an 83-24 record in SWAC play. Athletic Director Dr. Jason Cable stated that Hayes' vision and passion for player development align perfectly with the university's goals.
