Autumn Getaways: West Virginia, Virginia, and More

State and regional travel roundups are promoting autumn getaways across the U.S., highlighting destinations from West Virginia to the Eastern Shore and Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. The West Virginia Department of Tourism launched weekly fall itineraries featuring Weston’s Museum of American Glass, Stonewall Resort State Park, the Almost Heaven Swing, Appalachian Coffee House, Bridge Day (Oct. 18) and outdoor activities like hiking, rafting and mountain biking, and is offering 20% off three-night state-park stays with code FallmostHeaven through Dec. 30, 2025. Other picks include Orange County’s William R. Mason Regional Park, with 345 acres, paved trails and a nine-acre lake, and a planned opening of Fifty Nine in Rehoboth Beach by Chef David Kneller to bolster Chesapeake-area dining. Near Washington, D.C., Catlett, Va., is being promoted as an affordable, nature-focused escape with a lavender farm and nearby wildlife-management areas. Lexington and the Shenandoah Valley continue to draw visitors with historic downtowns and attractions such as Wade’s Mill, lavender farms, Bread Days and boutique lodging, while broader fall recommendations include western U.S. convertible road trips to enjoy cooler weather and foliage.
