China, Myanmar Eradicate Telecom Fraud Centers

China has announced the successful dismantling of all large-scale telecom fraud centers in northern Myanmar, resulting in the arrest of 763 Chinese nationals, including 69 fugitives. This operation is part of a broader crackdown initiated last year, which has led to over 53,000 arrests of suspects linked to telecom fraud targeting Chinese citizens. The Ministry of Public Security emphasized the ongoing high-pressure strategy to combat cross-border telecom fraud, which has been rampant in Myanmar, with estimates of over 100,000 individuals involved in such activities. Evidence collected during the operation has been handed over to Chinese authorities, and cooperation between China and Myanmar's law enforcement agencies is set to intensify. China's Premier Li Qiang recently urged Myanmar's leadership to bolster efforts against transnational crimes, including online scams. This crackdown underscores the serious nature of telecom fraud as a growing concern for both nations.
