American Airlines faces wrongful death lawsuit after passenger dies post-landing
The family of John William Cannon, a 62-year-old Kentucky man, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against American Airlines and its regional partner Envoy Air, alleging that the flight crew delayed seeking medical assistance during his medical emergency, which ultimately resulted in his death. Cannon reportedly suffered a fainting episode while deplaning during a layover but was allowed to continue his journey to Durango, Colorado, despite ongoing signs of distress. According to the complaint, Cannon became unresponsive during the second leg of his trip, but flight attendants did not call for emergency help until after the plane landed, taxied to the gate, and all passengers had disembarked. The family's attorneys argue that crucial time was lost and that the crew failed to use onboard emergency equipment or attempt resuscitation measures in a timely manner. Legal representatives contend that prompt action by the crew could have potentially saved Cannon's life, highlighting the importance of immediate response in in-flight medical crises. American Airlines and Envoy Air have not issued detailed comments on the case, stating only that they are reviewing the complaint.
