Detroit to Accept Crypto for Taxes by 2025

Detroit plans to become the largest U.S. city to accept cryptocurrency for tax and fee payments starting mid-2025, positioning itself as a tech-friendly hub to foster economic growth and innovation. Payments will be processed through PayPal, which will convert the cryptocurrency into U.S. dollars, protecting the city from market volatility risks. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to modernize municipal services and encourage financial inclusivity, especially for residents with limited access to traditional banking. Mayor Mike Duggan emphasized the city's commitment to creating a technology-friendly environment that supports residents and entrepreneurs. Alongside this, Detroit invites blockchain innovators to propose solutions for enhancing transparency, security, and efficiency in public services. Other cities and states, such as Williston, Miami Lakes, Colorado, and Utah, have also adopted or are experimenting with similar crypto payment systems.
