FIFA Announces New Transfer Rules for 2025 Club World Cup
FIFA has announced the introduction of a new 10-day transfer window in June 2025, specifically designed for clubs participating in the expanded FIFA Club World Cup, which will take place in the United States. This interim window, from June 1 to June 10, aims to address potential conflicts as many player contracts expire on June 30, right in the middle of the tournament scheduled from June 15 to July 13. Participating clubs will also have the option of a second temporary window from June 27 to July 3 to re-register or replace players whose contracts end mid-tournament. The new format will feature 32 teams and is held every four years instead of annually. FIFA has left the final decision to open this additional window to the discretion of member associations, intending to ensure teams can strengthen their squads without losing players mid-competition. This move follows concerns about potential disruptions due to overlapping international tournaments, such as the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
