Sukhbir Singh Badal, president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), has publicly sought 'unconditional forgiveness' from the Akal Takht for mistakes made during the party's rule in Punjab from 2007 to 2017. This move follows a July 1 meeting where rebel leaders, including former MP Prem Singh Chandumajra, demanded accountability for four significant errors, including the mishandling of sacrilege incidents and the controversial pardon of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. Badal's three-page letter, which he submitted to the Akal Takht's jathedar on July 24, was released on August 5 amid calls for his resignation due to the party's poor performance in recent elections. The Akal Takht Secretariat indicated that a meeting of Sikh high priests will soon address Badal's letter and the complaints from the rebel faction. Badal's letter emphasizes his dedication to the Sikh faith and his acceptance of responsibility for the past, with a vow to follow any guidance from the Akal Takht. He seeks to portray himself as a humble servant of the Guru while addressing the accusations made against him by the rebel leaders.
