Sanjay Kumar, a 43-year-old Indian national from Bihar, has been indicted for allegedly selling and shipping counterfeit oncology medications, including Keytruda, into the United States. The counterfeit drugs were reportedly sold to individuals in the U.S. for tens of thousands of dollars, with Kumar facing five counts related to the trafficking of these counterfeit pharmaceuticals. Keytruda is a legitimate cancer immunotherapy approved for various cancer treatments, and Merck Sharp & Dohme LLC holds exclusive rights to its manufacture and sale. Kumar was arrested on June 26 in Houston, where he intended to expand his counterfeit drug business. If convicted, he could face up to 100 years in prison and a potential fine of $2 million. The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations and the FDA.
