Cannes Film Festival Highlights Global and Emerging Talent

The 78th Cannes Film Festival, held from May 13 to 24, 2025, is set to feature a diverse slate of international films and emerging talent, reinforcing its significance as a springboard for critical and awards recognition. Irish film 'Learning to Breathe Under Water' has been selected for the Great 8 showcase, spotlighting new UK and Irish filmmakers to the global market. Filipino directors Arvin Belarmino and Kyla Danelle Romero will compete in the Short Film Competition with 'Agapito', joined by notable co-productions such as the first Bangladeshi short 'Ali' and Lav Diaz's 'Magellan'. The Arab Cinema Center, in partnership with Marché du Film, will present panels and awards highlighting Arab and Palestinian cinema and new funding opportunities. Among the anticipated premieres is Wes Anderson’s 'The Phoenician Scheme', drawing attention for its cast and style. The festival's multiple sections, including Un Certain Regard and Director’s Fortnight, will showcase evolving voices and narratives from around the world.
