Israeli troops to stay in Jenin, Defence Minister announces

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that Israeli forces will maintain a presence in the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank following the conclusion of a military operation dubbed 'Iron Wall,' which began on January 21. Katz stated that the camp 'will not return to what it was' and emphasized the need for ongoing military action to prevent the resurgence of terrorism. Since the operation started, at least 17 Palestinians have been killed, including militants and bystanders, as Israeli forces engaged in what they describe as a counterterrorism effort against groups allegedly funded by Iran. The Palestinian Authority, which had previously deployed its own forces in Jenin, condemned Israel's actions and called for international intervention. Katz also accused the PA of financing terrorism and announced plans to expand military operations in other areas. This situation reflects ongoing tensions and violence in the region following a recent ceasefire in Gaza.
